DARTMOOR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
It was a great match for me, to kick off my wedding season with Rachel and Mark. Every year I try and get better in honing in on the right couples, clients, call them whatever you like, this pair became friends by the end of our adventure together.
It was clear we were all compatible to work with each other, how more compatible do you want to get than meeting up down the local pub for the first time over a pint. I got them a drink, and they got my wedding documentary style, a perfect fit.
They liked my reportage approach, the no frills, none of this glossy figments of their own imagination, and I got them, it was during our first meeting that I became aware of their story, like every wedding I shoot, there is a narrative behind every couple, and with this some are sad stories, and it was then and there that I knew I had the right couple in front of me.
After a good bit of fun shooting the bridal prep with some of Rachel’s friends and family, we headed to the church. Rachel and Mark got married in a cute little church up on Dartmoor, at a lovely village called Leusdon. Both have strong religious beliefs, which made the day even more honest and real to document, the sun was shining and they all headed up the road from the church towards the village hall for the reception, it made for a great picture, the perfect and best way to capture the whole wedding party moving from A to B.
The speeches got me, knowing the background stories, and the emotion behind the words, and also becoming such an important part of someone’s day, you can’t help but get sucked into it all, and I never have a problem with it, it actually makes me work and shoot in a certain way…
“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures”. – Don McCullin – Photojournalist.
I could not have wished for a better couple, I wish them all the happiness.
