my story

Sitting down to watch 90’s children’s TV programme Going Live with guest celebrity photographer David Bailey on the show, I never would have known that this was the start of my photography adventure. I can still remember the conversation I had with my mother while watching the programme to this day;

ME: “I want to be a photographer Mam.”

MOTHER: (still preparing food) “That’s nice dear.”

Brilliant! – I was 12 years old. And this is how it all started. I was locked on, Photography GCSE in school, BTEC College Photography and then University, an up rooting change of life move from my comfortable Welsh village home to Devon, and after eight weeks of free labour work experience at the local newspaper, I bullied them into giving me a job as a junior photographer. It was the best outcome I could ever had wished for, having the time of my life, where after becoming established I later went on to win South West Press Photographer of the Year, thanks Mr Bailey!

So, fast forward more than 20 years and here I am, a documentary wedding photographer, the best job in the world, and lucky enough to have become a finalist in 2014 Westcountry Wedding Awards, 2015 & 2016 South West Wedding Awards as Reportage Wedding Photographer of the Year. Devon is great, and I absolutely love it, I feel so grateful for living in such an idyllic part of the country, with it being so close to Cornwall also. I believe wedding photography within the South West is better than ever, and I’m proud to be part of it.

I live with my wife Sarah, who is such a great help with my business, as we have three young children, twin boys Elliott and Ross, and daughter Rose, who all keep us both on our toes, nothing would be possible without Sarah’s help in juggling a household, work and the kids, along with me running off shooting weddings.

Photography is what I always wanted to do, and quite possibly all I can do, telling stories through pictures, telling your story, with no narrator.
